JOEL J. GREENWALD, ESQ. – Managing Partner

       Joel Greenwald, Managing Partner at Greenwald Doherty LLP, has made labor relations and employment law for management the focus of his legal career.  He began his career at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, a large corporate firm with an international reputation.  He went on to found his own law firm in January of 1998, exclusively to represent management on the many legal issues that arise out of the employer/employee relationship. 
 
     Mr. Greenwald has litigated hundreds of employment-related cases, and built a distinguished record of early dismissals, effecting significant financial savings to his clients. He vigorously defends clients against all types of claims brought by current and former employees.  He also aggressively pursues claims on behalf of employers who have been victims of trade secret and confidential information theft by former employees.  He has built a reputation for efficient and responsive representation of a clientele that includes businesses in a wide variety of fields. 
 
     Mr. Greenwald’s clients benefit from his broad background as a trial lawyer, and from the depth of his experience appearing in state and federal courts, and before mediators, arbitrators and agencies.  He regularly represents management in collective bargaining negotiations, the arbitration of grievances and challenges to union organizing campaigns.  Mr. Greenwald has also served as a labor and employment arbitrator. 
 
     One of Mr. Greenwald’s chief concepts for his boutique law firm has been to assist employers in avoiding litigation altogether, by providing consulting services that equip management with the tools needed to assure compliance with all relevant workplace regulations. Accordingly, he has developed an innovative variety of legal services and trainings for human resources departments.
 
     Mr. Greenwald is a frequent lecturer on labor and employment topics before regional and national trade and professional groups.  He has given hundreds of presentations and keynote speeches around the United States and Canada on subjects of current interest to employers.  Mr. Greenwald is a well published author and contributes regular columns to various trade publications and business journals.  He is also frequently called upon to provide commentary to national newspapers, television and radio on the legal aspects of labor and employment issues that are in the news. 
 
     Mr. Greenwald has been designated with a prestigious “AV” rating by Martindale Hubbell.  He is a graduate of Duke University School of Law, earned his B.A. at Johns Hopkins University, and also studied at the London School of Economics.  He is admitted to practice in New York and Pennsylvania.
  

 


KEVIN M. DOHERTY, ESQ. - Partner

     A Partner at Greenwald Doherty LLP, Kevin Doherty has been a practitioner with the firm since its inception.  He has litigated countless labor and employment matters in federal and state courts and agencies.  Mr. Doherty also represents clients in labor negotiations and arbitrations, and routinely defends clients before such bodies as the U.S. Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board.
 
     In addition to representing clients in litigations and agency reviews, Mr. Doherty counsels management on human resources issues including: discrimination and harassment; terminations and layoffs; hiring practices; leave issues; executive employment contracts and restrictive covenants;  trade secret protection; arbitration agreements; and overtime and other wage claims.  He also works closely with clients to ensure that they are in compliance with federal, state and local statutes that govern the employment relationship.

     Mr. Doherty speaks and writes on a variety of labor and employment law topics.  In addition to being a guest lecturer at universities, he has been a featured speaker on employment topics for organizations such as the Society for Human Resource Management, the Council of Industry, Citibank, and the Healthcare Billing and Management Association.  His articles have appeared in many regional business publications.  Mr. Doherty also advises various community agencies, service organizations and trade groups on employment-related legal issues.

     Mr. Doherty's reported decisions at Greenwald Doherty LLP include Ghiraradelli v. McAvey Sales & Services, Inc., 287 F. Supp. 2d 379 (SDNY 2003).  Mr. Doherty received both his J.D. and his B.S. in Labor Relations from Cornell University.  In 2006, Mr. Doherty was named by the Rockland Economic Development Corporation as one of its “Forty Under 40” future leaders of Rockland County, New York. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.

 


TODD J. KRAKOWER, ESQ. - Senior Counsel

     Todd Krakower, Senior Counsel, joined Greenwald Doherty LLP after spending a number of years representing corporate clients and governmental agencies in a variety of employment matters, including claims arising under Title VII, FMLA, ADA, and ADEA and New York State Human Rights laws, as well as in traditional labor issues including those arising under the NLRA.  
 
    
A seasoned litigator, Mr. Krakower represents the firm’s clients on a broad range of labor and employment matters before federal and state courts and government agencies.  He has developed an excellent record of favorable litigation results for the firm’s clients.  Mr. Krakower also routinely advises clients on legal issues ranging from employee discipline to internal investigations. 

     Mr. Krakower began his career in private practice in the area of insurance coverage and reinsurance litigation.  He subsequently spent seven years as an attorney and supervisor for the City of New York's Office of Corporation Counsel (including in the Labor and Employment Division) where he defended the City of New York and its various agencies in all forms of litigation.  Thereafter, Mr. Krakower joined New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal (“NYSIR”) / New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (“NYMIR”) where he advised school districts and municipalities in labor and employment matters, and supervised employment-related litigations.  Mr. Krakower returned to private practice with the firm of Abbott, Reiss & Allen, P.C. before joining Greenwald Doherty LLP as a senior litigator. 

     
     Mr. Krakower earned his undergraduate degree from Tufts University, and graduated cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law.  He is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

  

 


DEVORA L. LINDEMAN - Senior Counsel

     Devora L. Lindeman, Senior Counsel, came to Greenwald Doherty LLP with many years experience in management-side labor and employment law.  She spent the prior eight years at Proskauer Rose, LLP, dividing her practice between human resources consultation and court and agency litigation.  She spent a number of years at a labor and employment boutique firm prior to that.  Since she has a business background, she understands employers’ needs and works with them to creatively solve employee issues.  Much of her practice involves counseling clients on issues such as responding to workplace discrimination or harassment complaints, dealing with wage and hour issues, accommodating individuals with disabilities, dealing with leave laws such as the FMLA and routinely addressing the other myriad of situations that arise on a daily basis for employers.  She also reviews and drafts employee policies and handbooks, and assists employers with employee agreements, such as non-compete and confidentiality agreements, as well as those involved with reductions in force.  Ms. Lindeman has also lectured to trade and business associations on various employment law topics.  
 
     Ms. Lindeman received her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College, and was graduated from Rutgers School of Law—Newark with Highest Honors.  During law school, she served as the Notes & Comments Editor for the Rutgers Law Review.  On graduation, she was inducted into both the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barrister.  She then clerked for the Honorable Stanley R. Chesler, U.S.M.J., in the District of New Jersey.  She has practiced management-side labor and employment law ever since.  She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.

 


LAURA L. HIMELSTEIN, ESQ. – Senior Counsel

     Laura Himelstein, Senior Counsel, joined Greenwald Doherty LLP after working at Deutsche Bank, a top tier global investment bank, and Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP, a large national law firm.  Prior to her private sector experience, Ms. Himelstein worked at the City of New York’s Office of the Corporation Counsel.  Ms. Himelstein litigates labor and employment cases before federal and state courts as well as before mediators, arbitrators and government agencies. 

     Ms. Himelstein has represented management in a broad array of employment related cases, including claims of sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination and violation of the ADA.  Ms. Himelstein has substantial experience litigating claims of breach of fiduciary duty, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets and fraud, particularly in cases involving misappropriation of key technology and confidential information.  She also has provided representation in education matters and class actions.  Ms. Himelstein is a vigorous advocate who often achieves favorable results for her clients in court and at settlement.
In addition, Ms. Himelstein has negotiated and drafted employment, confidentiality, professional services, outsourcing and other agreements.  This extensive transactional experience gives her a unique advantage in litigating claims that involve contractual interpretation and knowledge of industry practice.  Moreover, her negotiation skills facilitate settlement discussions.  

     Ms. Himelstein received her B.A. in philosophy from Yale University and her J.D. from Fordham Law School.  During law school, she served as Senior Articles Editor of the Fordham Urban Law Journal and as a member of the Moot Court Board.  She is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut
 

 


BRYAN D. GLASS, ESQ. - Associate

     Bryan Glass, Associate, joined Greenwald Doherty LLP after a number of years practicing labor, employment and education law.   Mr. Glass works closely with the firm’s clients, particularly public entities and healthcare and educational institutions to advise on a breadth of employee and student issues.  Drawing on his wealth of litigation experience, Mr. Glass provides the firm’s clients with pragmatic advice on practical steps they can take to address employment issues.  

     Mr. Glass began his career clerking for a state appellate judge in Philadelphia and then for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  He practiced for several years in the City of New York’s Office of Corporation Counsel, where he defended the City’s agencies, hospitals, and schools in all forms of employment litigation.  He then practiced for five years counseling educators and health care providers throughout New York State in employee discipline and other human resource matters, where he developed broad labor arbitration and collective bargaining experience and argued before federal and state courts and administrative agencies.  He has successfully defended several reported cases to dismissal through summary judgment, trial, and/or appeal.      
        
     Mr. Glass earned his B.S. in Labor Relations from Cornell University, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he won several labor law awards and served as an Executive Editor on the Comparative Labor Law Journal.  He serves as a public arbitrator on the NASD Dispute Resolution panel.  Mr. Glass is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.


 


MATTHEW B. WOLIN, ESQ. - Associate

     Matthew Wolin joined Greenwald Doherty LLP after spending several years in private practice devoted to litigation of various employment-related matters in both federal and state courts.  In addition to participating in labor and employment litigation on behalf of the firm’s clients, Mr. Wolin advises employers on the legal aspects of a wide variety of day-to-day human resources issues.  He also drafts and edits employment policies and employee handbooks and assists employers in the implementation of compliant practices and protocols.

     Mr. Wolin earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, and graduated in the top 25% of his class at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.  He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
 

 


HOWARD E. PINE - Associate

     Howard Pine, Associate, represents and counsels Greenwald Doherty LLP clients on a broad range of labor and employment issues.  Prior to attending law school, Mr. Pine had an extensive career as an educator and a businessman in the U.S. and abroad.  He is fluent in spoken Japanese.
 
     Mr. Pine earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his master’s degree in International Business from the University of California, San Diego.  He graduated from Rutgers School of Law-Newark, where he focused his education in employment law and served as Co-Chair of the Moot Court Board and an Editor of the Rutgers Law Record.  He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and pending admission in New York.
